VEGETHUMUS history

Sac Vegethumus

VEGETHUMUS, an integrated evolution

VEGETHUMUS was developed in 1965 by Jacques Frayssinet. The product was then in keeping with the latest agronomic acknowledgement of the time: soil humus which has become since a major element of integrated and sustainable agriculture. VEGETHUMUS currently combines agronomic technology and effectiveness by benefiting from the latest scientific research in biochemical fractioning (AFNOR Standards and Projects). The content of animal nitrogenous matters has been cut to a minimum 10% (wool flock) in its composition ensuring the optimization of "Controlled active composting"(Certified to EC 1774/2002 regulation). It is mainly the selected humigenous plant components (plant oilcake and manure) that provide VEGETHUMUS with exceptional humic potential confirmed by long standing comparative tests (INRA, SERAIL, CTIFL, 1996-2006).

2005

• Production unit certified to ISO 9001
• Official certification to composting in compliance with the EC 1774/2002 regulation
• Integration of fast infra-red techniques for raw material selection and product follow-up from ISB, CBM and ISMO humic potential indicators.
• Optimal formulation of plant oilcakes, which ensures agronomic effectiveness and fast broadcasting.

2000

• Factory laboratory certified to ISO and initiation of partnerships with CIRAD research programs, INRA Montpellier University, CTIFL…optimization of VEGETHUMUS agronomic effectiveness: SERAIL comparative tests.
• A precautionary principle: wool flock has replaced sheepskin scraps.
• 90% plant matter; sheep manure, coffee oilcake, cocoa and olive pulp.
• 10% animal matter; wool flock.
• 4 months' complete composting under sheltered building.
• 80% of the VEGETHUMUS production is available in granulated form.

1990

• Creation of the R&D laboratory and closer partnerships with research institutes IRD-CIRAD.
• Construction of buildings used for composting and monitoring of the process (CAC)
• Implementation of new systems for turning over, transferring, grinding, sieving and seeding compost.
• Selection of plant matters with high humic potential by biochemical analyses.
• 90% plant matter; sheep manure, coffee oilcake, cocoa and olive pulp.
• 10% animal matter; sheepskin scraps.
• Cold granulation, traceability.
• VEGETHUMUS best selling elaborate organic amendment in France > 15000t (1995)

1980

• First scientific partnership with Professor Louis André from the ENSA in Toulouse, an expert in pedology and organic matter.
• New composting site at Rouairoux present-day factory .
• Incorporation of plant oilcakes and increase of plant content.
• 75% plant matter; sheep manure, coffee oilcake and grape pulps.
• 25% glue dregs and sheepskin scraps.
• 3 to 4 months outdoor composting without turning over + 1 month composting under sheltered building.
• Grinding and sieving to refine powders.
• Installation of the first granulation presses (1985).

1965

• VEGETHUMUS was created by Jacques Fraysinet; first productions started at Labastide-Rouairoux, following a technical agronomic argumentation which could convince Clément Phalippou.
• 50% plant matter; sheep manure, coffee oilcake and grape pulp and marc.
• 50% animal; glue dregs (de-gelatinized sheepskins), slaughterhouse waste, shredded rabbit skin, pig hair, sheepskin scraps.
• 3 to 4 months sheltered storage without turning over.

As part of our « Proof through experimentation »research program, undertaken in partnership with several laboratories specializing in soil sciences, we have evidenced the Végéthumus « organic effect » upon the agronomic properties, that is to say biological, chemical and physical properties of soils.

Biological properties:
Tested in laboratories, the microbial life of a soil which received Vegethumus doses applied on market produce is significantly higher than that of the same poorly amended soil. The dose of Vegethumus enhances the stimulation of microbial life.

Chemical properties:
Repeated applications of Vegethumus significantly increase soil organic matter content and by feeding the clay-humic complex, improve storage and exchange capacities in nutrients (cation exchange capacity Ca2+, K+…).

Physical properties:
In the same conditions on open field, the increase in organic matter content by repeated applications of Vegethumus improves significantly soil porosity, enhancing water and air circulation (improvement of microbial life and root oxygenation…)
